Reliance to open its 1st freestanding Gap store in India

The first standalone Gap store in India will open soon in Mumbai’s Infiniti Mall, Malad, according to Reliance Retail.

As Reliance Retail Limited and Gap Inc. have reached a significant turning point in their long-term cooperation, which has made Reliance Retail the official retailer of Gap in India across all channels.

Reliance Retail currently launches the second phase of the new Gap store at Infiniti Mall after opening more than 50 Gap shop-in-shops since last year.

In the upcoming months, a number of freestanding stores will open across India as part of Gap’s effort to increase its market share. The Gap Infiniti Mall will represent the brand’s fullest expression, offering khakis, modern family staples, branded items, and denim.

Regarding this, Akhilesh Prasad, president, and CEO, of fashion and lifestyle, at Reliance Retail Limited said, “We are thrilled to bring the iconic Gap back to India in a new avatar. On visiting the new Gap stores, customers will not only discover a brand-new retail identity, but a tech-enabled shopping experience including smart trial rooms, express check-out, and an Omni experience, along with a better price value. It also gives us yet another opportunity to bring world-class brands and a differentiated shopping experience to our discerning Indian consumers.”

Growing Gap’s brick-and-mortar business through the launch of freestanding stores and multi-brand store expressions enables us to increase accessibility for Indian customers and meet them where they are shopping.

The largest retailer in India, Reliance Retail, has a track record of successfully managing omnichannel retail networks, expanding local production, and improving sourcing practices.

Under its agreement with Gap, Reliance Retail will use a combination of exclusive brand shops, multi-brand store expressions, and digital commerce platforms to provide the Gap shopping experience to people all over India.

Gap, which was established in San Francisco in 1969, keeps expanding on its denim-based foundation and connecting with customers online, through company-operated stores, and through retail franchises across the world. According to the announcement, Gap has a clear vision of doing more than just selling clothing. It champions an especially bold and upbeat sense of American style by bridging the gaps between people, decades, and cultures.
